Technical description for port 2869:

It was widely speculated that port 2869 is used by Microsoft Corporation in Windows XP SP2. The SSDP Discovery Service and Event Notification Service utilize this open access point to send and receive internal computer transaction from a computer system to the Microsoft server. The same service also utilizes port 1900 and 5000.
There is a rumor circulating among expert users that port 2869 may be a default internal proxy built into Windows XP for Microsoft Internet Connection Firewall and Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
Some users notice that certain modems initiate a slow UDP system scan through port 2869. This is initiated by the PnP (Plug n Play) service on the external or internal modem connected to the machine.
