Description of ErrorThe Windows error 1704 is a system error generated when the user runs the Microsoft Office Setup in his computer. This Windows error message usually occurs in the occurence of three conditions. First, the user has installed a family productǃÙs CD of Microsoft Office 2000. Second, the user does not perform a restart of the computer when prompted by the Office Setup. Lastly, the Office Setup is run by the user from another Office 2000 product. Error 1704 is said to apply on various editions of Microsoft Office 2000 as well as Microsoft Excel 2000 Standard Edition and Microsoft Word 2000 Standard Edition.

THE SOLUTIONTo correct any problem created by Windows error 1704 and for a complete installation process, the user is advised to perform a system restart whenever the Office Setup is run.
